Upcoming Bollywood movies of 2017

We saw some amazing films like Dangal, Pink, Wazir, Airlift, Neerja, Sultan, Dear Zindagi, Shivay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil among others last year. While it cannot be called a super-successful year for the movies, 2016 had a decent mix of some very entertaining films to some unexpected flop ones such as Fitoor, Kahaani 2, Raaz Reboot etc. 

Now that the year is finally began, here's a line-up of some of the most anticipated films of 2017 that you should definitely not miss:

1. Jagga Jasoos

Starring exes Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in lead roles, this film is about a young detective who goes on a quest to find his missing father. This journey turns out to be a life-changing adventure for him. After a lot of controversies, the much-awaited film of director Anurag Basu of Barfi fame, will finally hit the silver screens this year.

2. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha

After winning our respect with films like Baby, Airlift and Rustom, Akshay Kumar is all set to win us over yet again with a satirical film called Toilet Ek Prem Katha which will focus on the importance of hygiene in rural areas of the country. It is said to be a unique take on PM Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

3. Rangoon

Vishal Bhardwaj's most expensive film will star Shahid Kapoor, Kangna Ranuat, Saif Ali Khan in the lead role. Ranaut plays a film artist who is sent to the war zone to entertain the soldiers fighting in World War II. Her character is called Julia and she is in a relationship with her producer, played by Saif Ali Khan. In a twisted case of luck, she falls for a soldier(played by Shahid Kapoor) and thus begins the journey of love and loss. This story will remind us various hollywood and Japanese film like Pearl Harbor, From here to eternity, Casablanca, Enemy at the gates and Sayonara etc.

4. 2.0

Rajinikanth is now after facing a flop in the form of Kabali movie is now busy with the shooting of with his upcoming movie Enthiran 2.0 which is a sequel of blockbuster film Robot. Touted to be one of the most expensive films in the history of Indian cinema, it is said to be high on VFX, high-octane stunts, loads of romance and drama. 2.0 will hit the silver screens this Diwali.

5. Baahibali: The Conclusion

Oh well, this one won’t come as a big surprise as almost the entire country is waiting with bated breath to know the answer to that one question that has managed to give sleepless nights to many. ‘Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali?’ We all will finally be getting the answer to this question on April 28th. Great India Films had stumped up more than $7 million for North American theatrical rights to the sequel to director S.S. Rajamouli’s 2015 blockbuster Baahubali. The second installment of Rajamouli’s magnum opus is probably one this year’s most anticipated films.

7. Tubelight

he hit Jodi of filmmaker Kabir Khan and actor Salman Khan who won a zillion hearts with their film Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Ek tha Tiger will be back this year with a historical war film called Tubelight. Salman Khan plays a role of a guy who is from India and falls in love with a girl from China. Movie sets in 1962 Sino – Indian War. The makers have cast Chinese actress Zhu Zhu who will play the lead opposite Sallu bhai. Singer Arijit Singh will be singing first time for Salman Khan. Music is composed by Pritam. It is just assumed that Tubelight is copy of Hollywood film ‘Little Boy’, with some modifications like Little Boy plot covers relation of father and Son and now in Tubelight movie, plot covers relation of two brothers – Salman Khan and Sohail Khan. Save the date this Eid, because a lot of fireworks are expected from this one.

7. Padmavati

Well, all throughout the last year one project which was constantly in the news was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati.  After the whole casting coup, SLB finally roped in Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh for lead roles. The highlight of the film will definitely be Shahid and Deepika’s chemistry and Ranveer Singh’s portrayal of a negative character for the first time ever. Shahid Kapoor To Play Deepika Padukone's Husband in Padmavati Movie. It is being produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The story of Padmavati revolves around Allauddin Khilzi and Queen of Chittor named Rani Padmavati, the wife of Rana Rawal Ratan Singh. It’ll release on November 17.

8. The Ring

Imtiaz Ali is not your regular filmmaker. When he makes films, they are not only unique but they have a lot of hidden layers. For his next project which is tentatively titled The Ring, he has roped in SRK and Anushka Sharma for the lead roles. The Ring Story is based upon a guy Harinder Singh Nehra (SRK) a guide who meets with a tourist Anushka Sharma and fall in love with her. This is not the first time these two actors have come together for a movie, in fact, Anushka’s debut ‘Rab ne bana di Jodi’ was with SRK. After ‘Rab ne bana di Jodi’, they had teamed up again for Yash Chopra’s  ‘Jab tak hain Jaan’. This romantic drama is slated for an August 11 release.

9. Jolly LLB 2

Sequel to the national award-winning comedy Jolly LLB, this film has one major change. Instead of Arshad Warsi, the makers roped in a bigger star Akshay Kumar for their second installment. The recently released trailer suggests that this movie will have a comedy angle along with lots of twists and turns. The movie, which will feature Akshay Kumar in the role of a lawyer, also stars Saurabh Shukla and Annu Kapoor. The Bombay High Court has appointed a 3-member committee to review the film following the allegations that it has made the legal and judicial system a laughing stock. The film will release on February 10.
